37 week appointment

I went to the doctor today for my 37 week appt. It went well. I made up for my lack of weight gain the last few visits with a 2 lb. gain :) and Jace apparently had a growth spurt as I measured spot on at 37cm instead of 2 under at the last 2 visits :) I have not progressed at all as far as dilation and effacement goes. Jace's heartbeat remains irregular, but this doctor also encouraged me saying that this mill most likely resolve at birth. He felt no further testing was needed. Jace is moving around like crazy the past 3 or 4 days. I am cherishing the feeling as this may be my last pregnancy and the last time I feel this little miracle inside me.

I get to see my doctor again next Tuesday. Will post again then if no news in the meantime!

"Barrett-isms"

Just a few cute things out of Bear's mouth recently:

1) Barrett loves gummy snacks. The first ones he had were spiderman snacks so he asks for them by that name,"spiderman snacks." We were visiting Heath and Andrea and he asked for some. He had eaten the only pack I brought and so I told him that I was sorry, but we didn't have any. He then looked at me and cocked his head matter of factly and says, "then you need to go to wal-mart and get some." He had never said that before. It was so funny.

2) Our washing machine broke this week and we purchased a new one. "That man" came to deliver the new one and carry off the old one. Barrett didn't understand why if it was "boten" (broken) why I didn't "just fix it with a screwdriver." I wish it was that easy.

3) Tonight we were eating dinner at Captain D's--free kid's meals on Thursday nights. A man with a longbeard sat down beside us and Barrett got SOOO excited. He starts smiling and saying "ho, ho, ho!", very loudly I might add. I was kind of hoping the man wouldn't catch on and would just ignore him, but then Bear says, "Mommy, it's Santa Claus!" while pointing directly at the man. I laugh and try to divert his attention and say "No, honey. That's not Santa Claus." The man, being a good sport, smiles and says, "Well, maybe I am. Have you been a good little boy?" Barrett smiles and nods his head and says a very emphatic, " Yes, I have!" When we left the man tells him to behave. Barrett smiles and says,"Bye, Ho Ho."

Jace 36 weeks

It is crazy to think that we will be a family of four in less than 3 weeks now! Time really has flown and I find Jace's arrival sneaking up on me. I am so excited, but also a bit apprehensive as I don't exactly know what to expect. We are entering unchartered territory into the world of multiple children, sibling rivalry, etc... I am feeling very encouraged by Barrett's fascination with babies right now and the teachers at his mother's day out assure me that "he is going to be the best big brother" as they have allowed him to interact with babies there (under close supervision of course). Barrett is very sweet with the baby and give mommy's belly/Jace a kiss each day and affectionately tells us his "brutter" (brother) is in there.

I went to the doctor on Monday. I saw a new doctor as mine was out of town. I really liked her. She was very informative, answered all my questions, and seemed to really care. They did my group B strep test and checked for any progress. I had been having contractions off and on since my contraction stress test the week before; however, no dilation yet. I didn't really expect to be dilated as I didn't really dilate with Barrett until after my water broke. I was right!

They checked Jace's heartbeat again--still an arrhythmia present, but this doctor encouraged me again saying that in her experience, these tend to resolve at birth. She said they always alert the pediatricians to the presence of the arrhythmia so that they can monitor the baby carefully and make sure it is not still present at birth and during their hospital stay. She did not order a stress test or ultrasound as she felt comfortable with his baseline heartrate and movement. We remain optimistic and prayerful. Thank you for your continued prayers as well. The only other concern I had after this visit was I had not gained any weight and my belly measures 2 weeks under. It is normal for weight gain to slow or stop at this time and 2 weeks over or under is considered normal, but the measurements/weight gain have been under since the arrhytmia was discovered. I am hoping for an increased measurement at my next visit on Tuesday. I pray daily that my womb would be a nourishing environment for Jace and provide all his needs for growth and development there. I just want to be sure he is continuing to grow and thrive. I will ask the doctor about it at my visit and keep you updated. I see a new doc Tues. as my doctor was booked due to Memorial Day.

Jace 35 weeks

Just a quick update. I went to the doctor on Monday for routine check-up. I am measuring as I should. Jace was active as usual. His heartbeat was still abnormal--he has a fetal arrhythmia. I had to do several tests to make sure he was not in distress again. I did another ultrasound to check my fluid level; it was okay. Then, I did another non-stress test. Not sure what this showed as I then had to go over to the hospital to have a contraction stress test which makes sure Jace is not stressed with contractions. He passed. I was still a bit anxious and confused as I did not get to speak with my doctor after all the tests; the labor and delivery nurse just released me and told me to keep my next appointment unless I had problems between now and then. I got home and there was a message on the answering machine from my doctor apologizing that she did not get to speak with me again, but explaining that everything looked good on the tests and she would pass my chart along to schedule my repeat C-section. I got a call yesterday afternoon to schedule my section--it will be Wed., June 10th at 7AM if he does not arrive sooner!

I begin going weekly now and will see a new doctor next week as mine will be out of town. They will check for any progress in terms of dilation and effacement and do a group B Strep test. I may also have to do another ultrasound and non-stress test each time just to be certain Jace checks out okay as arrhythmias can be indicative of stress. From my research and what we have been told from others in the field, most of these arrhythmias are harmless and resolve at birth when the circulation switches from fetal to neonatal circulation, but should be fully evaluated/monitored. I have been praying that he will not be stressed and no harm would come to him because of this and for complete resolution at birth. Please join me in this prayer. I will keep you updated.

A Day at the Farm!

(the face says it all!)
Saturday, Our church hosted a preschool fund raiser for Relay for Life. It was held at our friends, the Brooks', farm. Barrett had a great time. He got to go for a long hay ride and see cows up close, pet a cow, ride a horse, see baby pigs, chickens, goats, a kitten, a rabbit, feed donkeys, stand by the BIG tractor, and see all his church friends. He didn't want to leave.
